Building Scale Models
Building Scale Models has always been fascinating for me. As a kid I grew up with 5 brothers who were car mad and we used to go and watch the motor racing all the time, so it seems normal that I started building scale model cars to begin with.
Building scale models takes a lot of time and love and over the years I have made lots of different models until I came across matchstick kits and then I realized that I could build anything I wanted to with a little imagination, but nothing comes close to what I will show you next.
David Reynolds spent over 10 hours a day for over 15 years building scale models the like of which I have never seen and it is simple amazing as you can see.
This incredible oil rig has a reported four million matches and he is going for the world record and it is over 21 feet long and 12 feet high. It really is an incredible matchstick kit.
Building scale models of this size is amazing. It takes two trucks to transport it and it is built in 14 sections. It is currently stored in a Southampton museum.
Building scale models like this normally would come with a huge cost, but this one only cost about $2,000 because David, who used to work on an oil rig, got all of his matches from a wholesaler. That’s a lot of matches!
I don’t think I will ever build something quite as big as this as I simple do not have the time to go this big, but it just shows what is possible when you set your mind to building scale models.
